Notes

There are a number of factors to consider regarding this matchup. For example, where is the encounter taking place? If Spider-man were to try to get the drop on Batman in Gotham City, I sincerely doubt that Batman would be defeated easily. One must also consider that Spider-man has somewhat of a physical advantage over Batman, where while Batman is at peak human performance, Spider-man is considerably more strong and durable. However, Batman has proven capable of defeating opponents that would seem vastly out of his class given a period of time for preparation.

The Scenario

To maximize the fairness for this fight, let’s say that each party is given 24 hours of time to prepare. They have basic information on their opponent. The fight takes place in an unpopulated city, neither Gotham nor New York, at night.

The Fight

Batman immediately takes to the shadows in order to observe the enemy and possibly draw him into a trap. Spider-man swings around the perimeter, drawing upon his Spider-sense in order to locate his adversary. It would not take long for Spider-man to locate Batman, despite how he may lurk from shadow to shadow. When it comes down to a battle, however, Batman would reveal the gadget he created during his preptime that negates Spider-man’s spider-sense using some combination of pheremones and radiowaves at a specific frequency. Taking away this sense, Spider-man would have a much more difficult time defending against Batman’s attacks, as Bruce is trained significantly more in-depth in hand-to-hand combat. Despite his increased strength and speed, Spider-man still has the anatomy of a man, and can be taken down using most of the same techniques. Batman keeps the fight at ground level by severing Spider-man’s webs with his Batarangs, and after a lengthy showdown, proceeds to knock out Spider-man.

Outcome

In this scenario, Batman overcomes a greater strength using his genius to handicap his opponent. However, without the preptime, it is likely that it would have played out differently, with Spider-man using his Spider-sense to counter any of Batman’s attacks.
